DENVER, CO, October 1, 2009…Kathy Mayer, director of Flight For Life Colorado announces the appointment of Bill Spialek, BS, EMT-P, to the position of Outreach Coordinator for Flight For Life Colorado. This is a new position for the 36-year-old nation’s first hospital-based, civilian medical air ambulance program.
In this position, Spialek will travel to the urban, rural and frontier EMS agencies and hospitals to work directly with them as their resource person. It also will allow the Flight For Life team an opportunity to expand the education they can offer as well as respond to concerns and provide patient follow up.
Spialek has worked in various health care capacities throughout the metro area for the past 19 years. As assistant program director for the Colorado Stroke Registry, he assisted with statewide coordination of the “Get With The Guidelines Program” providing outreach to rural and frontier programs. Additionally, he developed and managed the EMS program for the Medical Center of Aurora and served as education director for the National Ski Patrol Association. He currently is on the ski patrol at Sol Vista.
“Bill is uniquely qualified to work with Flight For Life Colorado and its partners in the region,” said Kathy Mayer. “He previously worked at St. Anthony Central Hospital in the mid-1990s as a paramedic technician in one of our intensive care units, and we are delighted to have him back as a member of our team,” she said.
Flight For Life Colorado has transported more than 90,000 patients during its 36 years of operation. As the nation’s first medical air ambulance program, it has become the model for more than 300 air ambulance programs worldwide. In 2004 Flight For Life expanded its operations to include Flight For Life at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, and our newest helicopter base in Pueblo at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center.
